Adventures in Science - Wood-Ridge Civic Center

Classes begin Monday, August 17 and run thru Friday, August 21, 2009.

If you're fascinated by technology and science, these classes are designed just for you! You can explore Robotics, Aviation, or sample a variety of Mad Science concepts. All three classes are hands-on and so much fun you won't know you're learning! Sign up for as many as three classes and get a full morning of Science. Classes are $99.00 each!

ADVENTURES IN SCIENCE REGISTRATION FORMS

Cyber Robotics: Science & Technology

9:00am - 10:00am              Grades K-2

Learn about the "building blocks" for all robotic movement: wheels, axles, and gears. Using specialty Lego parts, you will build merry-go-rounds, fans and other fun devices. You'll take home the 60-piece special parts set at the completion of class. Lots of fun for all fans of Lego's, robots, or kids who just want to know how things work!  

Cyber Robotics: Intro to Robotics

9:00am - 10:00am             Grades 3-6

Watch the teacher demonstrate building Tankbots, Touch and Light Sensors, Gears and ROBOLAB programming. Then you will complete programming exercises to reinforce demonstrated concepts. At the end of each activity, you will solve Open-Ended Challenges to demonstrate your understanding of programming logic, motors and timers, and touch and light sensors. This class includes extensive use of computers.

Aviation Club: Intro to Aviation

10:00am-11:00am                Grades K-2 & 3-6

Join us to build and fly real model airplanes and to explore the world of aviation! During the season you'll build from scratch at least 2-3 different airplane models. You'll fly your models and see your gliders in motion. You'll also learn to read plans, use metric rulers, make calculations and work with different tools. This fun and interactive class will stimulate your imagination! The curriculum is adapted for children in different age groups.

Mad Science: Jr. Mad Scientist

11:00am- 12:00pm               Grades PreK-1

We'll cover two topics each day, in just enough detail for the youngest scientists! Some of our units include Color Lab, Listen Closely, Keep in Touch, Eye to Eye, Adventures in Air, Digging for Dinosaurs, Weather Wonders, Water Works, Science of Music, Magnetic Attraction, Space Frontiers, Mad Mixtures, Let's Look Closely and Taste & Smell.

Mad Science: Sr. Mad Scientist

11:00am- 12:00pm               Grades 2-6

Explore a different topic each day! We might turn our classroom into a crime lab while we explore forensics. The next day we might learn about the science that makes our dinner! Then our classroom becomes a movie set as we explore special effects. Other possible topics include Walloping Weather, Earthworks, Mad Science Machines and Bugs!
