Shrimp, Kipper (Parent Child)

Ages 6 Months to 3 years

Children must be 6 months to 3 years old and wear a swim diaper with elastic legs unless potty trained.  An adult must accompany child in water.

Shrimp: Age 6 months -18 months.  Parents help the child become comfortable in the water through supervised activities, having fun and learning safety.  Class is 30 minutes and the primary objective is to get both the parent and the child comfortable in the water.  The child will become aware of the difference between moving through water and on dry land, while the parent will become aware of how to teach their child to be safer in and around the water.  The ratio of instructor to student is 1:8
 

Kipper Age 18 months - 3 years.  Parents help the child become comfortable in the water through supervised activities, having fun and learning safety.  Class is 30 minutes and the primary objective is to get both the parent and the child comfortable in the water.  The child will become aware of the difference between moving through water and on dry land, while the parent will become aware of how to teach their child to be safer in and around the water.  The ratio of instructor to student is 1:8   

 

Pikes, Eels, Rays (Preschool)

Ages 3 years to 5 Years

This age group will be divided into three categories according to skill level.  The ratio of instructor to student is 1:6

Pikes :  Beginner swimmer - at this level, children usually begin attending classes without their parents.  Children develop safe pool behavior, adjust to the water, and develop independent movement in the water.  It is designed for new swimmers:  teaching basic paddle stroke and kicking skills, pool safety and comfort in holding their faces in the water while blowing bubbles and swimming.  The ratio of instructor to student is 1:6     

Eels :  This advanced beginner level reinforces Pike skills.  It is for children who are comfortable in the water.  They are taught to flutter kick, float, and perform the progressive paddle stroke.  Children can swim across the pool without assistance by the end of this level.  The ratio of instructor to student is 1:6 

Rays:  At this level children review previous skills, improve stroke skills, build endurance by swimming on their front and back and learn to tread water.  Children can swim across the pool on their front and back without assistance by the end of this level.  The ratio of instructor to student is 1:6
