TENNIS (6 years - Up)

Beginner tennis lessons will cover all the basics like grip, forehands, serves, backhands, volleys, footwork, etc. Children MUST provide their own racket! Class size is limited to 8 students per age group. Tennis II will continue the development of these skills and requires that participants are able to successfully hit a serve and volley over the net.

Classes are held at Jocelyn Tennis Courts, Wood-Ridge

 

Lego Mania                                                   Grades:  K-3

Calling all Lego fans!  Each week your creativity will be challenged, as you are assigned to design something new.  From spaceships to animals, from race cars to castles, you’ll be making all kinds of cool structures.  Whether we build by ourselves or in groups, we’ll build some amazing things!  We’ll take pictures of you with each creation, and help you subscribe to LEGO magazine so you can send them your pics!

 

 

SPEED & agility clinic                               Ages: 9-12 years

This small group training class will help your child perform to his/her full potential. Under the direction of a trained instructor, drills and exercises will be performed to help your child improve speed, quickness and agility. Many of these drills are played in a game format, so your child will also have fun! Performance will be measured at the beginning and end of the session, so you can see the improvement.

 

Outdoor boot camp for kids         Ages 7-12 Years

This outdoor boot camp will help your child stay in shape for fall sports while exercising in the great outdoors. certified trainer will guide participants through strength, speed and agility drills. no equipment needed. bring a water bottle. call first to confirm availability, please.

 

KARATE & SELF-DEFENSE                    Ages 4-6; 7+

Learn the art of self-defense and much more!! Classes will teach your child self-confidence, coordination, balance, listening skills, character development, stranger-danger, bully buster, self-esteem, manners, respect and how to release energy! Karate and Self-Defense classes are designed to train many levels of beginners in the same class – if you liked the first session, come back and improve your skills!

 

CHEF-IN-TRAINING          Ages 7-12 years

An innovative concept in children’s cooking classes developed to inspire, excite and feed the curiosity of your growing gourmet. Growing gourmets will have the opportunity to cook and have fun in the kitchen. They will be introduced to cooking vocabulary and techniques, tool and utensils, basics of etiquette, nutrition, safety, kitchen math and new foods!

Theatre Arts For Children

Theatre Games:                         Ages 5-7 years

For children who love the spotlight, this is a chance to develop their interest in theatre. We'll play some simple acting and improv games, and learn about expressing feelings with our faces, our body and words, and learn to use simple costumes and props. Tons of Fun!

Sundays 1:00-1:55pm

 

Theatre Skills:                         Ages 8-11 years

For children who are ready to learn some of the skills that go into stage work. In addition to acting and improv games, we'll learn stage directions, talk about costumes and makeup, and practice some simple scenes.

Sundays 2:00-2:55pm

 

Theatre Craft:                  Ages 12-15 years

For teens who want to really begin exploring acting and stagecraft. We’ll develop our stagecraft through acting and improv games, scene studies, monologues and more. We’ll also focus on how costumes, makeup and scenery help actors do their jobs. There will be no formal recital, but parents are welcome to observe the final class.

DRAWING, PASTELS & WATERCOLORS

Ages 10-15 years            Mondays 5:45pm-7:15pm
Class will cover the basics of drawing and painting, using charcoal, pastels and watercolor paints. We’ll work from still life and photos, developing our own vision as we create works of art. Classes are limited to 10 students, so each student will receive individual attention.

MIXED MEDIA

Ages 5-7 years                Tuesdays 5:30-6:30pm
Ages 8-11 years              Tuesdays 6:45-7:45pm
Ages 12-15 years           Tuesdays 8:00-9:00pm
Here’s a chance to develop your creative side, as we explore a variety of artistic media in this exciting class. Each age group will do projects designed especially for them. Each session will include different projects, as follows. Fall: clay sculpting, papier mache, bookbinding, needlework. Early Winter: printmaking,metalwork, beading, junk sculpture. Double your fun – try both sessions!

 

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION

Ages 11-14 years              Tuesdays 5:30-6:30pm
Future filmmakers learn the team player qualities necessary for creating a film project with up to six on a team. Storytelling, picture storyboards, point and shoot composition, lighting and sound are brought together during a planned group shoot with a One-Time-Use Video Camcorder that is CVS processed into a DVD format.

 

JEWELRY & BEADING

Ages 8-11 years                 Thursdays 6:00pm-7:00pm
Ages 12-15 years               Thursdays 7:15pm-8:15pm
If you like the idea of custom-made jewelry but don’t know where to start, this is the class for you. We’ll learn how to make beads, as well as how to construct jewelry from ready-made and custom made beads. More sophisticated techniques and materials will be used for older students.

 

 

CLAY SCULPTING

Ages 8-11 years                  Thursdays 6:00pm-7:00pm
Ages 12-15 years                Thursdays 7:15pm-8:15pm
This introduction to ceramics teaches hand-building techniques using “Sculpey” clay and self hardening clay. Both are easily baked and then painted, avoiding the need for re-firing glazed projects. We’ll cover techniques like coil building, handles and slab rolling to create projects like vessels, boxes, lids and other 3-D forms. Techniques learned in this class can be used later on other types of clays.

 

GROUP VOICE

 Ages 10-15 years                  Thursdays 5:30pm-6:30pm
Ages 16-Adult                          Thursdays 6:30pm-7:30pm
Come and learn to sing like a Broadway star in a friendly group atmosphere. All students are encouraged to develop their love for singing through vocal exercises, group games and a little 1-on-1 coaching. We’ll address breathing, diction, blending, style and other aspects of singing, as we learn songs to sing for each other. Class may include a small recital for relatives on the final day. Classes are limited to 8 students – register early!

 

LATIN DANCE

 Ages 12-15 years                     Mondays 7:00pm-8:00pm
Ages 16 – adult                           Mondays 8:00pm-9:00pm
Get moving with fun, energetic dancing. Learn the basics of popular Latin and rhythm dances including cha cha, rumba, salsa and swing. This is an excellent start for anyone looking to learn the basics of social or competitive dance, or just get ready for a special event. No partner required. NEW CLASS FOR TEENS!

 

SUNDAY FUNNIES: MANGA & COMIC ART

Come see what this popular medium is all about! Learn drawing techniques for comics, manga, anime and graphic novels. This class is a great place to start to learn these skills, or to further explore cartooning.

 

KARMA KIDS

Check out this cool class which combines yoga, tai-chi-dance movement and some high-powered moves from mixed martial arts. Throw in some creative use of props, storytelling, music and instruments, and you get this truly innovative class that promotes positive body image, stress release and individual growth. All that and fun, too! Students should wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat.

YOGA TEENS

12-15 years                                   Sunday 2:00pm-2:55pm
Take a break from your busy week while you enjoy this blend of classic yoga postures and meditation. Sculpt a leaner, stronger body while releasing tightness and fatigue. Students should wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat.
