We’ve had a rather mild winter so far! Ground Hog’s Day is February 2nd. It’s my favorite holiday. We’ll play shadow games and learn about the weather. Hopefully, the groundhog won’t see his shadow and spring will come early. We will also learn about Abraham Lincoln and George Washington in celebration of Presidents’ Day. February has a lot of fun things planned. This year is leap year too. Imagine having your birthday on February 29th?
Our first theme of the month is “Color Week”. There are some fun science projects that we will be exploring to see how colors mix together to form new colors and how light going through a prism makes a rainbow. Many art projects are planned for this week, too.
Roses are Red Violets are Blue…Love is in the air! One of our February themes will be “Valentine’s Day”. We have been learning how to sign our letters and have also learned how to say some words in American Sign Language. Ask your child how to say “I love you” in ASL. We will sing love songs and make pretty crafts for our party decorations. On Valentine’s Day, we’ll have a party. The children can bring in valentines for their friends. We’ll exchange our cards at circle time.
February has always been a reminder of how we need to take care of our teeth. Dental health can never start too young. Therefore, the third theme will be “Love My Teeth Week”. Hopefully, we will have a visit from a dental hygienist who works in our community.
“Music Week” is the last theme to finish out the month. We will introduce pitch and tone. We will also experiment high and low, fast and slow sound waves as well as the sounds that different instruments and common household items make.
·The Super Bowl Party will be on Friday, February 3rd! Wear your favorite sports shirt! We’ll have fun playing football and eating snacks. Go Giants!!
