“The Meadowlands Area YMCA is proud to support and participate in Read Across the Globe,” said Ellen Daly, Daycare Director. “As a volunteer-driven organization commtted to strengthening our community, we are invested in developing youth from cradle to career and learning to read proficiently is a key component of success in school and in life.” Children’s exposure to language—talking, singing, or reading—from infancy to age 3 is a strong predictor of their ability to read fluently by 3rd grade. Children who are not reading proficiently by 3rd grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school. 201202YUSA1028_download_3
