The Meadowlands YMCA announced today the launch of a Mural Design Contest, which will curate artwork from the community to create a massive mural in the main corridor of the building. Members and those who have taken a program at the Y within the last 12 months are invited to design submissions around the visual representation of “What the Y Means to Me.”

“As a community organization, we are so excited about working with our members to add life to our walls. Each day they share their vibrant personalities, big smiles, and aspirations with us. It creates a unique atmosphere here; where everyone is working towards goals, expanding their knowledge, and building new friendships. There is no better way to decorate the walls of our building than with art that speaks from our member’s hearts,” said David Kisselback, CEO of the Meadowlands YMCA.

The contest will be led by Meadowlands YMCA Art Director and local muralist, William Billec. “We’re searching for talented members who would like to share their artistry on the left-hand wall leading to our Wellness Center. The mural will consist of 4 large letters: Y, M, C, and A. There will be 4 age groups: 4 – 7 for the letter Y, 8-12 for the letter M, 13-17 for the letter C, 18+ for the letter A,” said, Mr. Billec.

One winner will be selected per age group. Each winner will help install their letter design with acrylic paint in collaboration with Meadowlands YMCA Art Director and local muralist, William Billec, and up to 10 friends of their choosing.

The winners of the contest will be determined by a panel of judges, including Meadowlands YMCA CEO, David Kisselback, Chief Marketing Officer, Teri Festa, Content Manger, Daniel Morrell, Art Director, William Billec, and East Rutherford Mayor, James Cassella. All entries are due by May 15th at 5pm.

The contest will culminate in an Unveiling Celebration, where all winners, their families, friends, Meadowlands YMCA Board of Directors, and local press outlets will be invited to attend. The artists will have a chance to share their inspiration and speak about their connection to the project. The celebration will coincide with the second anniversary of the Meadowlands YMCA facility, which opened in May 2017.
