Emergent Childcare Program

Immediately responding to the urgent need for childcare, we continued to operate a state-licensed emergent all-day childcare program (7:30a-6p) since the mandated school closing. The Mara Center for Early Childhood Learning is a year-round premiere childcare center, and we operate numerous afterschool programs throughout the region.  We are well-organized and well-trained to manage in this situation and we are complying with the State and County Departments of Health’s safety standards.

Updated Health Protocols include:

  • Everyone (children, parents, teachers and building staff) entering the building is screened daily through survey and temperature assessment
  • We adhere to specific COVID-19 standards for cleaning and sanitizing as per the NJ Department of Health and Centers for Disease Control
  • Daily staff meetings and COVID-19 training
  • Lower Child-to-Staff ratios than required by the state and at no time will there be more than 10 people in a room
    Infants:  1:3
    Toddlers:  1:4
    Ages 3+:  1:9
  • The program adheres to the standards of social distancing as much as possible
  • We have an emergency plan in place should there be the onset of symptoms for a child or adult present during the program. This includes separation, social distancing and immediate communication to all involved via text and email followed by phone calls.
  • In compliance with DOH, space is limited

Hygiene, Cleaning and Sanitation

  1. Our building is "fog-cleaned" weekly using a state-of-the-art non-toxic electrostatic disinfectant along with traditional cleaning methods to provide a comprehensive and effective cleaning regimen approved by the CDC and State DOH.
  2. Children do not share toys, game, or other equipment and they are all cleaned between each use.
  3. Children only interact with their teacher and their group, no groups are ever combined.
  4. Dedicated cleaning staff works around the clock to constantly disinfect high-touch hard surfaces including door handles, light switches, faucets, toys and games, etc.

The New York Football Giants have generously helped to fund a program at the Meadowlands YMCA to provide childcare at NO COST TO HEALTHCARE WORKERS AND FIRST RESPONDERS for 10 weeks beginning March 26th.

To apply, please email Andrea at afernandez@meadowlandsymca.org attaching an image of your employee picture ID and a recent paystub (this is not a financial need program so you may black out pay info).

The YMCA is largest childcare provider in the nation and our goal is always to serve families in need. As advised by the Department of Children and Family Services, we will continue to weigh the risk of public health against the necessity of providing a service that is much needed by families. We will continue to appropriately react to the shifting landscape as we move forward.

DO YOU WANT TO HELP? We have a great community of caring people and businesses - some of whom are trying to figure out ways to help.  One of the things they may choose to do is help the essential workers by providing them with free childcare through a donation to the Y dedicated to this service
