Graphic Designer

Primary duties are working with internal team members across disciplines and Directors to develop and create dynamic graphic materials across a wide variety of communication channels from print advertising, collateral, TV Monitors/screens and signage, to digital communications and advertising including email templates, banner ads, social media, and other digital content, to designing websites and apps. He or she should be able to work extremely collaboratively with Marketing team members and other internal stakeholders to translate ideas into compelling visuals and digital experiences resulting in solid design options that meet established objectives. This candidate is an excellent visual communicator with strong branding and design background, enthusiasm for the visual web, and knowledge of a multitude of social media platforms. The candidate should have experience with branding, art direction, social marketing, graphic design and online publishing. Candidate must be a flexible and creative self-starter who is able to work within a fast-paced environment and support multiple projects at once.

  • Organize and be responsible for the accuracy of all design-related elements at all stages, ensuring that they meet the requirements set forth from the Marketing department and internal departments.
  • The designer is directly responsible for the layout and design of all marketing materials including the web site.  Design print collateral, signage, outdoor, digital and traditional advertising, including graphics/icons and other brand identity elements as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation and coordination of materials for programs, events and other related needs.
  • Ensure signage and all necessary preparation are correct and promptly ready for events and related activities.
  • Create videos and slideshow presentations as needed
  • Develop and present design concepts for projects.
  • Manage the TV Monitor and screen saver content from design to posting.
  • Maintain and regulate the Y brand standards throughout the organization.
  • Participate actively in project and process meetings as necessary for the accurate and timely completion of projects, and provide feedback on an on-going basis.
  • Ensure that publicity and marketing materials, signage are up to date and relevant.
  • Actively participate in designated meetings, training sessions and special events.
  • Assist with building an engaging brand presence on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and more.
  • Assist with supporting team in production and promotion of engaging content to coincide with Y stories, marketing messages, seasonal initiatives and industry news.
  • Support the CMDO and Content Manager with creative materials as needed including website sliders, social media cover art and profiles
  • Keep abreast of design and industry trends for software, print standards, online technology, design, format, etc.
  • All other miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned by supervisor. 



  • Articulate, self-managed, multi-tasker, high-energy level, interest and passion in the YMCA cause.
  • Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign, After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator. In-depth knowledge of Supersign LG software.
  • Strong and varied design experience spanning print, responsive web/mobile sites, mobile apps, email templates, and digital/social advertising, and print advertising with appreciation for user-centric design principles.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Strong design skills, including creative design solutions using brand standards.
  • Team player with strong conceptual skills and the ability to think out of the box.
  • Solid understanding of deliverables, and the ability to take responsibility for them.
  • Handle concept-to-delivery of all graphic elements for internal and external use.
  • Exhibits strong knowledge of the Y-USA brand guidelines, design expertise and high-level conceptual creativity.  
  • Proven ability to use colors, typography, imagery, and layout to communicate the appropriate message and stay “on brand.”
  • Regularly collaborate with Chief Marketing & Development Officer, Content Manager and colleagues, in order to gather information for design innovation, as well as service any design needs they may have.
  • Expert knowledge of creative marketing concepts, development, and production with proven ability to manage their own creative projects from conception through implementation with creative direction from senior leaders.
  • Passion for creative and innovation, yet appreciation and understanding of corporate processes and workflow.
  • Able to effectively communicate with other disciplines to ensure visual design communicates the desired message and leads to user action.
  • A designer first, but with an understanding of: Marketing fundamentals, user experience, information architecture, branding, and, HTML, CSS, iOS technologies, and the like.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Perform other graphics-related assignments as assigned.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects/tasks of varying complexities, meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
  • Must be strong self-starter who thinks on her/his feet to solve problems.  Ability to recommend and initiate work and projects with minimal direction.
  • Careful attention to detail, extraordinary time management skills, exceptional initiative and follow-through skills
  • Must have a portfolio that represents an eye for design and innovative design style across a wide range of print work.
  • Ability to thrive in a cross-functional, team-based environment is critical
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of services in a PC environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design/advertising. (Advanced degree preferred, but not required.)
