MEADOWLANDS YMCA  - A COMMUNITY RESOURCE

The Meadowlands YMCA is, and continues to be, an advocate and resource in Bergen County. Our two branches, the main facility located at 390 Murray Hill Parkway in East Rutherford and our Meadowlands Family Success Center program in Little Ferry, have quickly responded to the urgent needs of our community as they arise.

The Ways We are Supporting Our Community

EMERGENCY CHILDCARE

Immediately expanded our Mara Center for Early Childhood Learning to a state-licensed emergent all-day childcare program upon the state-mandated school closing on March 23rd for healthcare workers and first responders and other essential personnel who have children at home. The NY Football Giants funded 42 children for 10 weeks through May. We also would like to thank Amerigroup for becoming a sponsor of this service.  They recognize that there are many workers out there putting their lives as risk to care for the children of all of our essential workers including lab technicians, hospital janitors, transportation workers, etc.

WEEKLY FOOD DISTRIBUTION

Our food partners, Community Food Bank of NJ, Table to Table, Osem, Meadowlands Racetrack, Hello Fresh, Goya Foods, Wish Juice and others have provided over 147,000 meals to over 8,000 families (to-date) and will continue, in partnership with Table to Table and others, to distribute food boxes every Tuesday until further notice.  Occassionally, we will offer food distribution twice a week. Further, our 21st Century Community Learning Center staff is assisting with the school lunch distribution in Moonachie on a daily basis.

MONTHLY BLOOD DRIVES

Responding to the urgent need for blood, we began hosting collections on March 20th and have continued with dates in April, May and June. To-date, we have collected nearly 100 units of blood saving close to 300 lives. Click here to schedule an appointment.

TECH ACCESS

Made computers available to students in Little Ferry, Moonachie and other underserved areas who do not have access to devices at home at our Meadowlands Family Success Center. Installed internet and gave WiFi access for in-need community in Moonachie so that the families stay connected to school and can participate in distance learning.

Y ONLINE

To quickly respond to the urgent needs in our community, we created a Meadowlands YMCA Online Resource Portal to provide wrap-around resources and support for adults, seniors and families during the Coronavirus Crisis. We brought together concerned community residents, leaders, and community agencies to address the problems that threaten the safety and stability of families and the community. There is no cost to access services provided.  The broad-range of topics include; resources for home schooling, Playbook on working from home, activities for families, financial assistance programs advice, mental health and medical resources, family resources, career development, job readiness trainings, DIY projects, healthy cooking, free online workouts and tips and tricks for making it through these uncharted times.
