Annual Support Campaign

The Y utilizes your generous gift to enrich the common good of our local community. The funds raised through the Annual Support Campaign makes a meaningful and enduring impact right in our own neighborhood. No matter how much you give, it plays a vital part in helping us to help those in need.

All donations to the Meadowlands YMCA help transform the lives of families and individuals in our beloved community. These funds go towards providing financial assistance to families in the Meadowlands Area, affording the capability to partake in opportunities they may not otherwise be able to afford.

Thanks to the contributions we receive from Y staff, Board, members, the community-at-large, and you, help us to continue to provide programs that impact our community in a positive way. Last year we provided $650,000 in scholarships and subsidies to over 3,500 local families in the Meadowlands region.

  • $855 Teaches adults English in ESL Classes, making it possible to find work and become a part of our community.

  • $645 Builds the leaders of tomorrow’s workforce with after school programs that teach children to code through robotics engineering.

  • $495 Reduces an adult’s risk of an early death by preventing type 2 diabetes.

  • $250 Provides parents with safe childcare options, such as a week of summer camp or a month of after school care.

  • $188 Prevents a child from drowning with life-saving swim lessons.

  • $50 Reduces isolation by offering subsidized group exercise classes for active older adults to make new friends.

Meadowlands YMCA Member, Carl D.

The Meadowlands YMCA has the ability to positively impact the health and well-being of the Bergen County community.

Y member Carl D. is living proof that the YMCA changes lives. We saved his. Diabetic and hypertensive at age 48, Carl led a sedentary lifestyle until he joined the Y when it first opened in May 2017. He struggled to walk on the treadmill for only a few minutes at a time, and could only swim in the pool for about a half hour. “I knew I had to set a better example for my kids,” says Carl, a father of three. “There’s no reason not to move. You find the time.”

Carl enjoyed his exercise routine at the Y, swimming and walking nearly every day. He encouraged his wife and children to join him. Then he got sick.

“I went to work and made it through the day. The last thing I remember was getting home. My wife said I collapsed and was unresponsive. I woke up a day and a half later in the hospital. “My doctor told me the only reason I left the hospital alive was because of all the cardio work I had been doing for the past year,” Carl said. “I wouldn’t be here now if I hadn’t started exercising.”

Carl’s is just one of many stories of how the Y positively impacts the lives of the people in our community. As a key part of our mission, the Meadowlands YMCA subsidizes programs for chronic disease prevention and management as well as provides financial assistance to children and their families, so no one is turned away because of a lack of ability to pay.

“The YMCA literally saved my life,” Carl says. “I walk four miles every day now, and swim for at least an hour,” Carl says. “And my son Cal, 13, has special needs. He’s been much more social since we joined the Y,” Carl said. “The Y not only saved my life, but it brought us closer together as a family.” We want to ensure that our vital programs and services remain affordable and accessible to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay. Please consider making a donation to the Meadowlands YMCA this holiday season. Your generosity could save a life.
