Covid Can't Stop Good - Our Impact by the Numbers
As part of Governor Murphy’s order to close all NJ casinos, movie theaters, gyms, bars and restaurants, the Meadowlands YMCA suspended wellness and pool operations effective 8pm, Monday, March 16th, until further notice.
UPDATE (June 2): Beginning July 6th, we will be opening for Summer Camp. We will also soon be announcing the resumption of childcare for non-essential workers. As information becomes available, we will post on website and social media platforms.
We Miss You! #standwithus
The Meadowlands staff deeply appreciates your understanding as we navigate the challenging circumstances related to the Coronavirus. We THANK YOU for allowing us to place your membership on HOLD until we re-open.
When you belong to the Y, you are not only a member of a health and wellness facility, you are a member of a COMMUNITY. We were inspired when we received a message from Jean Dugan who has been a member for just over a year. She is thankful that she has not been severely affected and asked to donate her monthly membership fee to assist us in our community service efforts. "I bet others would do the same," Jean continued. So, we are taking Ms. Dugan's suggestion and inviting you to be a part of our OPT-IN program. If you choose to also contribute, your first monthly fee will be drafted on April 15th. (you will NOT be charged unless you OPT-IN) Your monthly membership fees will allow us to continue to provide the crucial services that are needed in OUR COMMUNITY and would be, just like Ms. Dugan's, recognized as a donation.
"Since my job has not been affected by this disaster, I would like to contribute my membership fees (that were put on hold) to your effort." - Jean Dugan Member since 2019
To OPT-IN, please click here to email James Chiappone by Friday, April 10th. If you are not in a position to donate at this time, you do not have to do anything, and your account will not be drafted.
YOUR YMCA SERVING THE COMMUNITY:
- NJ has deemed us an essential resource. We are running our childcare program for healthcare workers, first responders and other essential personnel including supply chain employees.
- Monthly Blood Drives. We held a blood drive in March and collected 87 units of blood which can save hundreds of lives and have been hosting drives monthly during the pandemic. click here to schedule an appointment. Choose the Y location.
- Installed internet with Wi-Fi access in areas of need in the Moonachie community so that the families can stay connected to work and participate in distance learning.
- Weekly food distribution in partnership with Table to Table providing food to those in our community impacted by the crisis. Continuing our long-standing relationship with The Community Food Bank of New Jersey, we partner with them on a monthly basis allowing us to host two distributions a week at least once a month.
- Working with the schools, we are setting up remote learning sites for those students who do not have access to devices at home.
- Made computers available to students in Little Ferry, Moonachie and other underserved areas who do not have access to devices at home.
- We have created Y Online, an online resource portal to provide support to our community at-large.
