Home Schooling

Parenting through a pandemic can be challenging. While at home, structuring you child’s day helps to establish a routine and sense of normalcy. However, establish a schedule that fits the lifestyle of your family during this time. Anxiety may be high for your family, so encouragement and positivity are important!

Below are some resources that can help to navigate schooling at home and other supplemental educational projects for kids and parents, too.

Summer Reading Suggestions

This summer maybe more than ever before, it is important to keep your children from the typical "summer slide". Summer reading is critical for students to retain knowledge and skills learned in the previous school year. Students who don't read are at risk of falling behind their classmates. Parents and teachers can avoid this by making sure kids take time to read.

Listed below are websites that we think would be fun/valuable for students and their families over the summer. Some are lists with reviews, some have additional activities.

  • ALA (American Library Assoc.)—Birth through Grade 8; recommendations with brief descriptions of each book Click Here
  • Hornbook—Preschool through high school recommendations list. Click Here
  • Hornbook reviews:
  • ILA (International Literacy Assoc) K through age 14 recommendations with brief descriptions, Click Here
  • Reading Rockets—Still has 2019 booklist, but there are excellent parent resources for the summer. Click Here
  • Read Across America—Summer activities plus booklists through age 12, Click Here
  • Kirkus Reviews— Summaries with reviews can be filtered by ages; birth through 12 Click Here
